Based on a diffusion-type measuring chamber, the instrument allows simultaneous measurement of radon (222Rn) and thoron (220Rn) activity concentration.
The required rapid exchange rate of sampled air is achieved by a highly permeable chamber placed outside the instrument housing. The relative thoron sensitivity achieved with this configuration is comparable to that of pump-based instruments.
The modified measurement chamber was derived from the Radon Scout, while the electronics come from the RTM 1688-2. This means over 2,000 data records, including a full alpha spectrum, can be stored. Naturally, barometric pressure, temperature, and humidity sensors are also integrated.
The Thoron Scout offers a larger screen compared to the Radon Scout. Replaceable batteries allow for approximately one month of autonomous operation. The unit can be operated on mains power, resulting in unlimited sampling times.
A switching output can be used for warning purposes or to control ventilation equipment.
The instrument comes with a calibration certificate in accordance with DAkkS. The calibration process for Radon (Rn-222) meets the requirements of DIN ISO/IEC EN 17025:2018.
