Patient QA comparison
IBA MatriXX alternative: Sun Nuclear ArcCHECK and SunCHECK
If you are comparing IBA MatriXX Evolution, MatriXX Resolution or myQA Patients for pre-treatment and in-vivo QA, this page explains how ArcCHECK with SunCHECK Patient fits the same clinical decision.

The IBA MatriXX shortlist, in practical terms
MatriXX Evolution
Planar 2D array with 1020 vented ionisation chambers, 32 x 32 matrix, 7.62 mm spacing and a 24.4 x 24.4 cm field. It can use an inclinometer for composite VMAT verification.
MatriXX Resolution
Planar 2D chamber array with 1521 measurement points, 6.5 mm spacing and a 25.3 x 25.3 cm field, positioned by IBA for higher-resolution IMRT and VMAT QA.
myQA Patients
IBA software for patient-specific QA, dose comparison and gamma analysis. EPID or log-file based workflows are associated with the myQA iON module.
Planar geometry
The MatriXX family measures in a plane. For composite VMAT, the workflow typically relies on gantry-angle information and angular-response correction.
The Sun Nuclear alternative
ArcCHECK is a cylindrical patient-QA phantom with 1386 SunPoint diode detectors arranged in a helical grid. Instead of measuring the arc on a flat detector plane, ArcCHECK samples the delivery around the cylindrical measurement volume and connects directly to the SunCHECK Patient platform.
- Cylindrical 3D measurement geometry for IMRT, VMAT, SBRT and MRgRT workflows.
- Entrance and exit dose information with a virtual inclinometer derived from the measured delivery.
- SunCHECK Patient can combine PlanCHECK, pre-treatment array QA, phantomless QA and in-vivo review in one database.
- Small-field stereotactic QA can be extended with SRS MapCHECK when resolution requirements justify a dedicated detector.
- ArcCHECK, SunCHECK Patient, MapCHECK and SRS MapCHECK can be planned as one QA ecosystem rather than isolated tools.

Where ArcCHECK tends to win the workflow discussion
Rotational treatment QA
The cylindrical detector layout naturally follows the clinical shape of arc therapy, instead of reconstructing an arc from a flat plane.
Centralised patient QA
SunCHECK Patient helps bring plan checks, measurement review, reporting and trending into one QA record.
Mixed VMAT, SBRT and SRS work
ArcCHECK can cover routine patient QA, while SRS MapCHECK can be added for high-resolution stereotactic checks.
Platform planning
The same ecosystem can connect patient QA, machine QA and volumetric review options as the department grows.
